Serious safety dangers leads to fines for recycling company

A South Yorkshire metal recycling company, C F Booth Ltd, has been fined after injuries to a worker in December 2013.

25-year-old Ryan Jackson had his arm broken in three places, a cracked shoulder blade and had a radial nerve shredded to the bone when his arm was pulled into unguarded machinery.

On investigation, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found there were insufficient guards in place and no emergency stop button.

C F Booth Ltd. has previously been issued with written advice from the HSE regarding their failings on guards.

The company was fined £15,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,595 after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
