The Department of the Environment (DoE) is currently carrying out a consultation on proposals for the Contaminated Land Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and associated Statutory Guidance. Under Part 3 of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order SI 1997/2778, provision is made for the introduction of a contaminated land regime which is similar to the one which already exists in Great Britain. Once introduced, the regime will provide a system for the identification and remediation of contaminated land where significant harm is being caused, or could be caused, or where there is pollution of waterways or underground strata.
All responses to the consultation must be submitted by 11 October 2006.
