On Tuesday 28 June the European Council are set to have their first informal meeting to discuss the leave result of the UK referendum on EU membership.
This will be the first opportunity Prime Minister David Cameron has had to explain the situation in the UK. He is not expected to formally notify the EU of the decision to leave which would begin withdrawal negotiations. At the moment it remains undetermined precisely when this will happen.
On Wednesday 29 June, the 27 Heads of State or Government will have an informal meeting to discuss the political and practical implications of the UK's vote to leave. This meeting will not involve UK participation.
It is anticipated that the withdrawal process set out under Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union will be discussed and that the future of the EU without the UK as a member will be reflected upon.
