The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published new online guidance to help self-employed people understand the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (General Duties of Self-Employed Persons) (Prescribed Undertakings) Regulations SI 2015/1583.
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (General Duties of Self-Employed Persons) (Prescribed Undertakings) Regulations SI 2015/1583 specify the circumstances in which self-employed persons will be required to comply with their duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 to carry out their work in a way that makes sure that themselves and anyone else who may be affected by it are not exposed to risks to their health and safety.
They are the result of amendments made by the Deregulation Act 2015.
The HSE has estimated that health and safety law will no longer apply to 1.7 million self-employed people, such as novelists, journalists, graphic designers, accountants, confectioners, financial advisers and online traders.
The new guidance, found online at www.hse.gov.uk/self-employed, helps self-employed people decide whether health and safety legislation still applies to them under new requirements designed to exempt those who pose no risk to others.
