Theme park owners Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd have been informed today (25 February 2016) by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that they will be prosecuted, due to the incident where five people were seriously hurt.
Two female passengers suffered injuries causing their legs to be amputated, with 3 other passengers being seriously injured when two carriages collided on 2 June 2015
They will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 22 April to face a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act etc. 1974
Neil Craig, head of operations for the HSE in the Midlands, said: "We have today informed Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd that it will be prosecuted for breaching health and safety law. This was a serious incident with life-changing consequences for five people.We have conducted a very thorough investigation and consider that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to bring a prosecution."
