The list of workplace exposure limits (WELs) for use with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations SI 2002/2677 has been updated to include new limits which will come into force on 1 October 2007. These new and revised WELs apply to 33 substances, and will implement Directive 2006/15/EC, on a second list of indicative occupational exposure limit values.
WELs help employers meet their legal responsibilities under COSHH, which requires them to prevent, or if this is not possible, to adequately control employee exposure to hazardous substances.
These new WELs have been published on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website.
