Second oil slick not serious

The Environment Agency have said that a second oil slick off the North Wales coast is being broken up naturally by the waves, and no real environmental damage is expected. The mile long slick in the Menai Strait was reported on 9 July and follows on from the 5 mile slick 2 weeks previously, as reported in last months bulletin. The source of the original leak was a disused sewage works in Caernarfon, and the leaking outfall plant was supposed to have been sealed. However, contractors are now on the site to make sure no further oil is being released and the Environment Agency will be monitoring the slick to ensure it continues to break up.
