Rail worker injured by train

A rail worker has lost both his feet while helping to manoeuvre a nine carriage train. The vehicle was in sidings close to Harlow Mill Railway Station in Essex, on Wednesday 22 August 2007, when the man slipped under it. His feet were severed, however firefighters and paramedics attending the scene managed to free the man and retrieve both feet from under the train.

Mark Samuels, the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service officer in charge of the incident said, "It appears the man slipped underneath the carriage as he was seeing back the train. His limbs were severed but the cut was clean, so the legs were taken with the casualty to hospital in the hope that medical teams may be able to sew them back on."

A rapid response vehicle arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, and a joint investigation between the police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is now underway to find out the exact cause.
