England and Wales put out over fire reform delay

The Government are currently working on an Order which will delay the start date of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order SI 2005/1541, which is due to come into force on 1 April 2006. This will allow businesses and fire safety specialists more time to prepare for the new fire safety regime which will affect all non-domestic premises in England and Wales. The new provisions are a move towards an increased emphasis on fire prevention and will see the abolishment of fire certificates. These Regulations are now expected to come into force in October 2006, at the earliest.
