The Environment Agency have issued a reminder to operators of landfill sites, that as of 16 July 2006 whole used tyres and shredded tyres can no longer be sent to landfill. The Landfill (England and Wales) Regulations SI 2002/1559 initially only banned whole used tyres in certain sites, however this has now been extended to all waste tyres. There are however some exemptions for large tyres from agricultural or heavy plant vehicles, bicycle tyres and those used for landfill engineering purposes.
