Confiscation Order for Cookstown man

Mr Kevin Higgins of Cookstown, has been made the subject of a £16,068.36 Confiscation Order, at Dungannon Crown Court.

The Confiscation Order, under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, was given by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA). During a site visit in May 2007, officers discovered that Mr Higgins had kept and illegally disposed of around 6,800 tonnes of controlled waste at land at Killybearn near Cookstown.

The waste, which included clay, reinforced concrete and demolition waste, was being kept without a waste management licence being in place for the site.

Back in 2008, Mr Higgins was sentenced to four months (suspended for two years), for four offences under the Waste and Contaminated Land Order (Northern Ireland) SI 1997/2778.
