Statistics published by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) show a 12% decrease in planning applications from the previous year.
Between January and March 2022, 109,000 planning applications were submitted to English District level authorities, down 12% from the same period in 2021.
84,000 applications were granted planning permission, which was a 4% decline from 2021.
These successful applications were made up of:
85% of planning applications were decided within 13 weeks or the agreed time, again this was down from the previous year by 3%.
For the year up to March 2022, 373,400 applications for developments were granted, up 15% on the year ending March 2021. However, there was an overall decrease in the amount of residential developments receiving planning permission. 38,000 residential developments were granted permission for the year up to March 2022 - 4,700 of these were major developments and the remaining were minor developments. This was a decrease of 4% and 2% respectively for residential developments, the equivalent to a 3% decrease overall compared to the year ending March 2021.
