Wales Missed 2014-2015 Target by 45%

Research conducted by Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners (NLP) has found that the Welsh Government only built 2218 new affordable houses. This means it is 45% short of the 4000 new affordable houses per year. Furthermore, the results also suggest that the Welsh Government are 27% short of their target of building 8500 houses per year.

The household projections within the report find that the target should be 11660, which means, since 2011, there has been a shortage of 29200 houses.

Senior director and head of NLP in Cardiff, Gareth Williams claims the under-delivery of housing has substantial economic and social impacts across Wales and may discourage new investment. Furthermore, he adds that this may cause an inability of people to form households and possibly result in more families living in unsuitable conditions.
