The UK has broken it's own record for the length of time it's energy mix has gone coal free, with three days of the fossil fuel being made redundant.
The news comes after the UK set the record for longest time without coal only last year, for 24 hours.
The energy supply came instead from a mix of gas, renewables such as windfarms and solar power, and nuclear sources. Biomass fuel from the Drax station in North Yorkshire and imports from France and the Netherlands also contributed.
Cedrec's take
Another exciting milestone in the fight against fossil fuel consumption. The UK is making slow progress to solving the energy mix conundrum when it comes to removing fossil fuels from the supply, and replacing it with sustainable, greener options.
Here's hoping this three day record can be smashed again, and soon. The UK still has obligations such as the Paris Agreement and energy-related issues such as air pollution to tackle before we can truly pat ourselves on the back.
