Trust in Truss? New Environment Secretary announced

In what Labour have called a "massacre of moderates", David Cameron has drastically reorganised his cabinet.

One casualty of note is Owen Paterson, the now-former Environment Secretary.

Replacing him is South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss. On the topic of the environment, her views have so far included criticising the flood prevention plans the Government had in place during the flooding of late 2013 and early 2014. She has also voiced opposition to the use of agricultural land for solar and biomass plants.

Letsrecycle.com have said she comes as a "relatively unknown quantity to the waste sector", citing her battle with plans for a waste-to-energy treatment centre in King's Lynn. That particular issue revolved around Truss's unwillingness for a plant to be based in the area, using findings that suggested it was more cost-effective to send UK waste to overseas treatment facilities.

Let us hope the Oxford graduate is less cynical of climate change, and less like her predecessor, who famously disagreed in 2013 that climate change was even occurring.
