The force is with DuPont Kevlar

The chairman of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), George Lucas, recently inducted the DuPont Kevlar® plant bases at Maydown Londonderry onto the Recognising Excellence Programme (REP).

REP recognises employers and employees for excellence in health and safety performance and management and was launched in 2008 by the US Consul General and is modelled on the US Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Programme which has been running in the USA since 1982.

Speaking at the presentation George Lucas said, "Today DuPont joins an elite group of Northern Ireland businesses with its induction onto the HSENI REP. DuPont has demonstrated the highest standards of health and safety against a background of employee engagement and we warmly welcome them onto the programme. All the staff at DuPont are to be congratulated in achieving this recognition."

Claude Metzdorf, Plant Manager at DuPont Maydown said, "As an organisation we put a significant amount of time and resources into ensuring that our health and safety procedures establish and maintain the very highest standards. In fact, safety has been a core value at DuPont for the past 200 years. To have our commitment to health and safety recognised externally by HSENI through REP is rewarding for the entire team. All of our employees are aware of the importance of health and safety and the role they play in helping to ensure that our high standards are maintained"

He concluded: "As one of only a small number of organisations in Northern Ireland to be inducted into REP we are aware of the prestige of this recognition of excellence and will continue to put health and safety at the centre of our day to day business operation."
