The County Durham Environment Awards

Entries for "The Country Durham Environment Awards" are now open. The awards, which have been running for over 25 years, are to recognise the positive contributions made, by individuals, businesses, schools, and other community groups, to the environment.

The awards are organised by Durham County Council in conjunction with the County Durham Environment Partnership, and are sponsored by local businesses and charities, including Durham Wildlife Trust.

The awards aim to celebrate community based projects that either improve or enhance the environment. There are 12 categories being considered in this years awards:

  • built environment;
  • climate change;
  • community partnership;
  • craftsmanship;
  • greener business;
  • natural environment;
  • places and spaces;
  • schools and colleges;
  • volunteer group of the year;
  • volunteer of the year – under 18;
  • volunteer of the year – over 18;
  • waste management.

The deadline for any entries is 28 July with judging expected to take place over the summer. An awards ceremony will take place in November time, where the winners will be announced.
