For the first time, the UK's power demand was lower during the day than at night thanks to the contribution of solar energy from solar panels on rooftops and fields.
The sunny weather from last weekend saw six times more power produced through solar than the coal-fuelled power stations on Saturday 25 March.
The continuing days following saw solar providing around 15% of electricity demand on Sunday and Monday.
Duncan Burt, manager of daily operations at National Grid, commented: "Demand being lower in the afternoon than at night really is turning the hard and fast rules of the past upside down. It's another fascinating sign of the huge changes we are seeing in Britain's energy scene."
