The Secretary of State has been asked to intervene on a permission granted for the £70m "remodelling" of a shopping centre in Milton Keynes, which will add some 100,000 square feet of floor space to the facility. The scheme would see an increase in food and retail areas by 25% and a five screen cinema. Remodelling will also be done for open public spaces around the complex. The planning authority has approved proposals from Intu but the town council says the scheme contradicts the recently approved local neighbourhood plan and wants the decision "called in" by the Government.
Intu's regional director Martin Breeden said: "We're delighted that our proposals have been approved. Intu Milton Keynes is already the premium fashion pitch in the city and these plans will strengthen its position, creating a contemporary destination for customers to shop, eat, relax and socialise."
