Renewable energy overtaking nuclear power as Scotland's top power source

Statistics of the first half of 2014 show that the majority of Scotland's power was supplied through renewable energy sources, including wind farms, hydro power plants and solar combined, overtaking coal, gas and nuclear power.

The exact amount of clean energy produced was nearly a third more than that produced by coal and gas sources.

Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, said the record figures marked “an historic” moment for the renewable energy industry, as well as a major milestone for the Scottish Government’s plans to generate 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

Cedrec's take

This is brilliant news for the renewable energy industry. Clean energy sources are the future, and we are seeing major movements towards that future now.

Hopefully the remainder of the UK are not far behind Scotland on this matter.
