Paris Agreement comes into force

Following the signing and ratification of the Paris Agreement, the deal has came into force in the UK.

The Agreement sees the countries involved work to limit temperature rises to "well below 2 degrees centigrade" above pre-industrial levels.

A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned emissions would have to come down by between 40% and 70% for the 2C goal, and 70% to 95% to achieve the following 1.5C goal by 2050.

Any countries that lack the financial resources to meet the criteria will be given assistance, with countries contributing £100 billion until 2025.

Each country concerned must submit climate change action plans, which are reviewed every five years.
