Newry gets wood recycling facility

A new recycling facility capable of processing thousands of tonnes of waste has been officially opened in Newry, County Down. Environment Minister Arlene Foster was on hand to open Urban Forest Ltd's new facilities and praised the company's innovative approach to re-using waste wood. The company received financial backing from Invest Northern Ireland and the Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and now has the capacity to process more than 50,000 tonnes of high quality animal bedding and supplies many of the world's leading racing yards including those of the Aga Khan.

Ms Foster commented that the company's work was a good example of environmental and business best practice. "It is an excellent illustration of what public sector and private enterprise can achieve when we work together." She also paid tribute to Invest Northern Ireland and WRAP, both of whom played a major role in the development of the organisation. "Urban Forest is proof that Northern Ireland, through innovation, can have successful economic development while also protecting the environment."
