A warning has been issued by the National Grid that they may struggle to meet demands short term due to low temperatures and problems with imports.
It is yet to be seen how severely gas supply will be disrupted but National Grid think it is not likely to impact on households, but industrial users could face disruptions.
"We are in communication with industry partners and are closely monitoring the situation," the company said.
According to market watchers Platts, as a result of current temperatures gas demand is at a five year high.
The UK is currently using stores of gas from around the country, and liquefied natural gas at the Isle of Grain in Kent and Pembrokeshire-based companies, Dragon LNG and South Hook LNG.
The need for gas is making prices high, which is expected to last for the rest of the week. This has also had an impact on electricity supplies, leading to a surge of dirty coal power.
