Wiltshire Council is being challenged in the High Court by the Trail Riders Fellowship over access to roads around Stonehenge.
The Trail Riders Fellowship, which campaigns for the conservation of green roads across England and Wales have raised £12,193 to launch legal action. They claim the Council is prohibiting motor vehicles on minor roads that facilitate free and convenient viewing of Stonehenge. The Trail Riders Fellowship argue these roads are not tarmac surfaced and do not safely and sustainably accommodate motor vehicles.
In their claim they are citing two public inquiries findings which recommend that motor vehicle access should not be prohibited completely, especially for motor vehicles that cause little to no adverse impact on the roads and surrounding area.
The challenge is set to be heard in the High Court on 21 and 22 November.
