Lights out for Bristol village

It is that time of year again. Villages, towns and cities across the country are adorning their streets with Christmas lighting to make the season that little bit more special. However, this Christmas the residents of the village of Yatton, near Bristol, will not find themselves wandering beneath a twinkling light display.

Yatton Parish Council usually hangs strings of Christmas lights across Pages Court shopping precinct in the centre of the village. However, due to major refurbishment in the area and the presence of scaffolding, it is too dangerous to string the lights up.

Although health and safety concerns have prevented the lights from going up, the village will still be receiving some festive cheer from the Parish Council and the local residents don't seem too concerned. The Clerk of the Parish Council, Aleana Baird, said, "Due to the work being carried out at Pages Court, the Christmas lighting display in Yatton this year will be reduced. Scaffolding has been put up around the precinct which means we cannot put up our strings of lights due to health and safety issues."

"However we will be putting up a Christmas tree in the precinct and will be putting the illuminated motifs on lamp posts where we can. Although the display will be reduced this year the villagers are very happy to see the work to the precinct being done."
