The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSE NI) are investigating an incident in which a landfill worker was found dead at the Biffa Waste site in Mallusk.
Although the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are unclear, it seems the worker went missing, after last being seen beside machinery in mid afternoon. A body was found the following evening, after an overnight search was called because of the hazardous conditions, which included lying water from recent flooding.
The company have stated that they would co-operate with the authorities as well as conducting their own investigation.
However, the worker's brother has stressed that someone should come forward and explain exactly what happened. He said, "I want Biffa - the boys at the very top - not to try to cover anything up or hide anything. Come clean and then sort yourselves out and make sure this never happens again."
