Investigation into farm death

An investigation is currently underway after a farmer was killed on Monday 7 July 2008 when he was crushed between his tractor and a "link box" trailer. The father-of-four, believed to be in his 40s, has been named locally as Malachy O'Neill.

The tragic accident happened at a farm on the Tirgan Road at Moneymore, County Derry and emergency services were alerted after he was discovered at the scene by his 18-year-old nephew. Fire crews attempted to free the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Patsy McGlone said, "The whole area was in serious shock." The police and the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSE NI) have confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances.
