Funds available to enable public sector to build homes

One Public Estate (OPE), a partnership between the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Office of Government Property within the Cabinet Office and the Local Government Association, have released £15 million in their latest round of funding for the programme which has placed emphasis on unlocking surplus public land for housing supply.

Over the past five years, OPE has worked with 318 local authorities in 76 partnerships on more than 450 projects aimed and transforming local communities and public services. By April 2020, it is predicted that land is set to be released for 25,000 homes through current partnerships which will create 44,000 jobs and raise £615 million in capital receipts.

The available fund this year comprises £12 million in grant funding with a further £3 million allocated as a 'recyclable' grant which must be returned to the programme fund within three years to be reinvested in future projects. New and established partnerships are invited to apply for the funding.
