This week saw President Trump carry out his election pledge to withdraw America from the Paris climate change treaty.
His decision has led to an outpouring of condemnation from world leaders and environmental activists alike.
The deal allowed for exiting the agreement, but the process is lengthy, and means the US can expect to formally remain in the agreement for the next three and a half years.
The move has not sparked a rejection of the deal however, a scenario many had concern over. Instead, both Beijing and New Dheli, both currently significant emitters, reaffirmed their commitment to meeting targets.
Some speculate that China, in sticking to their objectives, can become a market leader for renewable energy.
Trump has stated he will attempt to renegotiate a deal for the US to re-enter the agreement, however followed this up by saying "if we can't, that's fine". Time will tell what role the US will take following their exit from the accord.
