Cherry picker falls on workers

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSE NI) are currently investigating an accident in which a cherry picker vehicle fell on two men in County Antrim. One man is in a stable condition at the Causeway Hospital following the incident at Queen Street in Ballymoney. He is understood to have sustained a back injury. Details are still sketchy regarding the condition of the second man, but he is believed to have a broken wrist.

The two men were standing on the platform putting up Christmas lights in December 2007 when the vehicle toppled over. Both were rushed to hospital by ambulance. A spokesperson for the HSE NI confirmed that they were aware of the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding it. The job of erecting Christmas lights was subcontracted to Dowds Electrical by Ballymoney Borough Council, however the company have so far refused to comment.
