Next month will see the Build Safely Seminar 2008, which is part of the BuildSafe NI initiative. This is being held at the Silver Birch Hotel, Omagh, on Wednesday 2 July 2008 from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
From a health and safety at work perspective, the construction industry in Northern Ireland is at high risk. In the past decade alone, 44 construction workers have been killed and over 500 have been severely injured. This appalling record is being tackled by BuildSafe NI, which aims to substantially reduce, and in the case of deaths, eliminate the human cost of health and safety failures throughout this industry in Northern Ireland.
The seminar is supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (Northern Ireland) (CITB NI) and the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSE NI). The HSE NI will provide an update on slips, trips and falls, working at heights and excavations as well as corporate responsibilities. In addition, various organisations will provide examples of best practice health and safety, including civil engineering contractor PT McWilliams.
