Found by a link on the Health and Safety Authority website, the BeSMART tool has been beneficial to thousands of business owners, managers and workers. A free, online and easy to use risk assessment and safety statement tool has put the management of health and safety at everyone's fingertips. As part of the 'Taking Care of Business' initiative the HSA has developed this tool, and since its launch in 2011 almost 50,000 have registered, or used it to generate safety statements or risk assessments.
It is advised for companies to have up to date information on health and safety, which is part of what we offer here at Cedrec, and the BeSMART tool helps you to review your own risk assessments and safety statements; by law your workplace must effectively manage health and safety, and doing so has tremendous benefits for your employees and can cut back on many health risks and significant costs. Even if you have already reviewed your risks before, it is important to regularly update and review those risks many times over.
Keeping track of these risks and safety statements will not necessarily help to prevent such accidents from occurring, but they will definitely help to reduce the likelihood of them happening in the first place. Both employers, managers and supervisors should all try their best to ensure that the workplace practices accurately reflect the contents of the documents. These should at least be reviewed annually, and updated if necessary (new equipment or procedures introduced) - the risk assessments in particular should be reviewed following an accident or near-accident in the workplace.
This is all made easier through the BeSMART tool, providing many noteworthy benefits such as:
