Communities Secretary Greg Clark has refused a proposed 2.2 hectare development in Ravenswood which goes against the recommendation of a planning inspector after a call-in.
The proposal contains 94 affordable flats and houses as re-development of the former Ipswich Airport. Clark expressed how the development would contradict local as well as national policy as firstly, they were not truly integrated into the housing market and secondly, they did not help "create inclusive and mixed communities."
Ipswich Borough Council leader David Ellesmere, expressed his disappointment as he said "I cannot think of another case in the country where a planning application has been turned down because the housing wasn’t expensive enough." He also expressed the extensive costs that the council faced during the process.
