Port in centre of health and safety storm

Forth Ports have admitted breaching health and safety legislation, which resulted in an industrial accident at Leith docks in Scotland in December 2004. A crane surveyor was injured by an unguarded drive bolt as the equipment was being operated. The crane was being refurbished at the time, while the accident victim and his colleague were inspecting the work, an activity for which the company had not properly assessed the risks. Numerous court appearances and convictions in recent years for similar serious health and safety failings have led to the company being fined a massive £200,000 for this particular incident.
