The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) has announced the publication of the Control of Asbestos Regulations (Northern Ireland) SR 2007/31, which will begin to come into force on 1 March 2007. The new Regulations will strengthen overall worker protection by reducing exposure limits and introducing mandatory training for work with asbestos. They will also revoke the existing provisions relating to control of asbestos at work, licensing and prohibitions and replace them with a single set of Regulations, which will hopefully provide for a tighter control for work with all types of asbestos.
They correspond to the similar Regulations which came into force last November in Great Britain.
