The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSE NI) in partnership with the Engineering Training Council and EEF, The Manufacturers' Organisation, is running a series of safety awareness workshops for small engineering companies to highlight the need to manage certain high risk activities in this industry. Workshops will run on 30 October 2007 and 20 February 2008, and will address:

  • the insurance industry's perspective;
  • forklift truck training and maintenance;
  • lifting and slinging;
  • guarding of machinery;
  • lock out and maintenance;
  • general health and safety.

In addition, the HSE NI and Belfast City Council's Safety and Environment Advice Service is running a workshop on 8 October 2007 to raise awareness among hairdressers and salon managers of the risks of contracting dermatitis. Up to 70% of hairdressers suffer from skin damage, and the aim of the workshop is to highlight the need to wear appropriate gloves and follow an effective hand washing and skincare regime.

Further information on these workshops can be found on www.hseni.gov.uk.
