An overly slippery floor surface at Kentucky Fried Chicken Ltds Hereford outlet, has landed the company with a conviction, having pleaded guilty to two charges under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations SI 1992/3004. KFC were deemed to have failed to keep the floor of the kitchen free from substances likely to cause a person to slip. The company was also found to be infringing food hygiene provisions. Visits by council officials in January 2006 found a number of areas in the kitchen with liquid, grease and oil spillages on the floor which made the quarry tiled surface very slippery and potentially dangerous.
Hereford Magistrates fined KFC a total of £9,910, who have since introduced new cleaning processes and practices and have improved staff training.
