Consultation on RoHS

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) published a new public consultation paper on 6 September 2006, which proposes revisions to the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Regulations SI 2006/1463.

The consultation is seeking the views of producers of electrical and electronic equipment regarding potential amendments to Schedule 2, on exempt applications, and the provisions that are specific to enforcement. It has been suggested that amending the existing RoHS Regulations in the light of experience gained and lessons learned from the first year of application will provide for a more effective enforcement regime. In addition, greater protection of the "single market" will be established which will enable UK businesses to compete on a level playing field across Europe.

Representations must be received by 29 November 2007.
