Construction guidance proposed

New guidance for the construction industry, which will support the revised Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, is to benefit from the work of a steering group set up by the Health and Safety Commission's Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC). The new proposed Regulations revise and consolidate the provisions of the current Construction (Design and Management) Regulations SI 1994/3140 and the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations SI 1996/1592, in order to form a single regulatory package.

This will in turn be supported by an Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and industry produced guidance. It is the role of the steering group to make sure that any such guidance is consistent, properly targeted and explains the application of the Regulations to both employers and employees. It is hoped the guidance will be made available from January 2007, and will link with the ACOP which is also to be published at this time. The revised Regulations will come into force on 6 April 2007.
