3 billion fund for house building

Communities secretary, Sajid Javid announced a £3 billion home builders fund at the Conservative party conference which is aimed at building more than 225,000 new homes.

Both Javid and Chancellor Philip Hammond said that housing is a key priority for the government.

The Communities Secretary commented: ''Tackling this housing shortfall, isn’t about political expediency. It’s a moral duty. And it’s one that falls on all of us.'' He added the new fund which will create thousands of jobs across the country will ''help us get more SMEs building, encourage custom-builders, and allow developers to build the infrastructure needed to support new housing.''

A second initiative announced was relating to accelerated construction on public land, where government-owned land will be partnered with contractors and investors to speed up house building.

Javid also declared a package of measures intended to encourage urban regeneration and building on brownfield land. These include increasing the level of building on brownfield lad to create high quality housing for families and transforming abandoned shopping centres into new communities.

The communities secretary stated that a housing white paper will be published later this year to include further significant measures aimed at helping the government achieve its ambition to build one million news homes by 2020.
