Offshore wind companies have been awarded £1.5 million funding to increase innovation, reduce cost and encourage further investment in wind power.
Carbon Trust, who's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) research and design programme has pushed new technologies in the offshore wind sector, was awarded the fund.
The money is likely to fund projects that continue to explore and exploit opportunities as well as improve the current wind technologies. It will also encourage international collaboration and make sharing knowledge cheaper.
Paul Wheelhouse, Energy Minister, explained how previous Government support has helped develop OWA to where it is now and the added funding will help continue research. He also cited that renewables have had great impact in the progress in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.
