Happy Xmas (War is over) for the people of Frome, Somerset as the council finally approves planning permission for Santa's Grotto.
After six years of children visiting Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves, Santa's Grotto was set to expand with two new buildings just outside of Frome when it was stopped in its tracks by Somerset council. Initially, the planning permission was rejected due to concerns regarding 'sustainability' with the lack of public transport links to its rural location.
As the site was built without planning approval, the council threatened enforcement action, with many disappointed at the prospect of no Grotto. With the site booked up every weekend up until Christmas, Craig Gilbert (Santa) was particularly disheartened as he just wants to give "some fun and joy in people's lives at the moment".
Finally, after a second application, it has been confirmed that Santa Claus will be coming to town as the council have granted planning permission for the site. The group have expressed their delight on the grotto's Facebook page, commenting: "We are so happy, we can't stop the Elves dancing, and Mr and Mrs Claus are thinking about having a sherry to celebrate".
"Thank you again, you wonderful community you".
