New solar farm approved in Dover

Planning permission has been granted by Dover District Council for a solar farm which could be able to supply energy to around 7,000 homes, covering around 13% of the Dover district.

The solar farm will be located on land in Guston near Dover, and permission has been given for a 24-megawatt (MW) solar farm with battery storage and associated works. It is expected to be used for a period of 40 years.

Permission was granted, with conditions, by Dover District Council on 17 November and the proposals came from solar farm management company Greentech.

Chris Vinson, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change, commented: "We continue to work hard to tackle climate change and to reduce the district’s carbon footprint, to help protect the planet, and to help the district become carbon neutral for the future."
