1.2% rise in UK energy price cap

In January to March 2025, there will be a 1.2% increase in the energy price cap, energy regulator Ofgem has confirmed.

The average annual dual fuel bill will be £1,738 with the new cap. This is 10% less than the same period in 2024 and 57.2% lower than during the peak of the energy crisis in 2023.

Ofgem has pointed out the increase in cheaper fixed tariff options, with some deals offering savings of over £140 annually compared to the price cap.

Customers are encouraged by Ofgem to look for tariffs that better suit their needs in the growing market. In particular, those who don't use much energy could benefit from low or no-standing charge options.

Switching payment methods could also save households money, with direct debit payments costing around £100 less annually than standard credit payments.

For customers who are facing difficulties, there is extra support offered in the form of affordable payment plans, access to hardship funds, and energy saving advice.
