This week is Recycle Week!

This week (14-20 October) is Recycle Week and this year's theme is "Rescue Me", which focuses on rescuing recyclable items from heading to the rubbish bin.

Boots and Tesco have sponsored this year's Recycle Week and support Recycle Now's mission to inspire everyone to rescue those recyclables!

By recycling at least one extra item as part of our daily recycling routine will make a huge difference.

Rescue recyclable items from the bin

UK households are wasting one billion items every year that could be recycled. Millions of recyclable bottles, sprays and toilet roll tubes are facing incineration or landfill instead of being transformed into new products.

Britain's most binned items include:

  • 7.4 million yoghurt pots;
  • 845 million cleaning product bottles;
  • 6 million aftershave and perfume bottles;
  • 526 aerosols.

While nine out of 10 people regularly recycle, nearly eight out of 10 put one or more items in the rubbish bin that could be recycled.

This Recycle Week should encourage everyone to become a recycling hero all year round, and make sure that every yoghurt pot, spray bottle, aftershave and perfume bottle, deodorant and toilet roll tube in your home gets recycled.
