A Government planning inspector has backed plans to build 1000 homes (800 home and 200 home developments) on land in between Abingdon and Radley. The land has been designated as greenbelt land in the Vale of White Horse District Council's draft local plan.
Ticia Lever, a former planner for the local council, who has campaigned against the proposals expressed her disappointment claiming "broken promises" of Government policies. She is correct to feel dismay as policy says development can only be performed on greenbelt under "exceptional circumstances".
The town councillor of Abingdon, Samantha Bowring added that "there are sites that have better transport links and less congestion" compared to the proposed site.
The district council will make a decision on planning inspector Malcolm Rivet's justification of adding to the housing need in Oxford. He also argued other proposed sites may be in risk of flooding and could be problematic therefore he argues making changes to the plan.
