PM issues warning ahead of COP26

COP26 - the 26th UN Climate Change Conference - is arguably the most important yet. There is a lot of recent scientific research to suggest that we're almost out of time to fix our climate and action needs to be taken quickly. It's far more than a political or national crisis, it is something that will have consequences for the entire planet.

With this in mind, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has claimed that it could be "tough" to encourage other developed nations to actually meet their promise to provide a collective $100bn a year to developing nations to help them to cut carbon emissions. In 2019, $79.6bn was provided, which falls short of the price pledged by developed nations. However, prior to COP26 in November, Mr Johnson has said he will aim to persuade others to take action during a series of high-level talks with other nations.

"It's going to be tough but people need to understand that this is crucial for the world" Mr Johnson stated.

Despite the importance of COP26, some environmental groups have called for it to be postponed, as leaders of developing nations will find it difficult to travel to Glasgow due to COVID-19. It is perhaps more important than ever that as many political leaders or their representatives attend this meeting.
