Plans have been approved for 54 new affordable homes and a 68-apartment extra care development by East Riding of Yorkshire District Council to be built in Bridlington.
The plans were brought forward by Esh Housing, who are working in partnership with Housing 21 and Yorkshire Housing. The deal looks set to be worth £25 million, and plans to house over 50 families with varying degrees of need in an affordable way. Esh Construction will build the 54 affordable homes for Yorkshire Housing, and will be made up of a mixture of two and three-bedroom houses, two-bedroom bungalows and one-bedroom ‘walk-up’ apartments. They will be available for affordable rent, shared ownership, and rent-to-buy.
The extra care development will be a three-storey building containing one and two-bedroom flats, communal facilities, including a restaurant, hair salon, and a resident lounge. This will be managed by Housing 21 to provide further support to residents. Laura Devaney, land and partnerships director at Esh Construction, said: “With an ageing population it is important that we are building more new extra care housing to satisfy the needs of later-life living options, as well as helping to meet the government’s affordable housing targets."
Kathryn Gare, head of acquisitions at Yorkshire Housing, mentioned that the development was just a fraction of the way to fulfilling their ambitions for affordable housing, stating: “When finished, this site will provide over 50 families with high-quality affordable homes and bring us even closer towards our target of delivering 8,000 new homes."
Work looks set to begin during the first quarter of 2024.
