The Government has announced a £2 billion green homes grant that will offer funding of up to £10,000 to support the installation of energy efficiency measures in homes across England.
These grants will cover up to two-thirds of the cost of energy home improvements such as insulation, heat pumps, and solar thermal to more than 600,000 homes. The improvements are expected to help households save up to £600 a year on their energy bills as well as reducing their carbon footprint. It is also hoped that the scheme will help to generate over 100,000 jobs in green construction.
£500 million of the fund will be set aside to support low income and fuel poor households, this includes those living in rented accommodation. Local authorities will be able to bid for funding to help improve the energy efficiency of low income households in their area.
Alok Sharma, the Business and Energy Secretary commented: ''Green home improvements will save people money on their energy bills, help to cut carbon emissions, and create new work for many thousands of builders, plumbers and other trades people. Our TrustMark scheme will guarantee that building work is completed to a high standard by accredited trades people, ensuring consumers are fully protected''.
