National Marine Week starts on Saturday!

National Marine Week starts on Saturday (22nd July), which is a celebration of all things marine and is set up by the Wildlife Trust.

Marine areas are key to tackling climate change and have also had an enormous cultural impact on society.

The event lasts longer than a week, and runs to the 6 August, so we can make the most of the different tide times around the country.

This year, the Wildlife Trust are focusing on the unsung heroes of the marine world. These are species you may not have known we get in the UK and some you might not have ever heard of before, such as:

  • sea hare;
  • honeycomb worm;
  • undulate ray;
  • bottlenose dolphin;
  • minke whale;
  • common cuttlefish.

This map shows what species you can spot at coastal Wildlife Trusts.

Take action to help marine wildlife

The Wildlife Trust provides ideas on how we can help marine wildlife this National Marine Week:

  • do a litter pick or beach clean;
  • learn how to conserve water;
  • reduce your plastic use.

You can find a National Marine Week event near you to take part!
